The Mandalorian
NCIS
Status: Renewed
Network: CBS
Est. Cost: $2.5 million per episode*
NCIS is one of the few hit shows that has lasted more than ten seasons and is on its way to twenty. The police procedural has stood out in a sea of similar shows by focusing on a cast of unusual characters such as the jet-black pigtailed Abby Sciuto. Fans can’t get enough of the world that NCIS has built, therefore CBS would be insane to discontinue the ratings powerhouse. With a seventeen-year run that shows no signs of slowing down, the drama series is now the second longest-running non-animated show on television, trailing only fellow procedural Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

NCIS

The Good Doctor
Status: Renewed

The Good Doctor
Dead To Me
Status: Canceled
Network: Netflix
Est. Cost: $300,000 per episode* (Cast Salary)
Netflix has a talent for finding vehicles for vintage stars to make their own. Christina Applegate hadn’t had much mainstream success in a long time when she was cast in one of the starring parts in Dead to Me, opposite Linda Cardellini. She is now back on top. Will Ferrell produced the dark comedy, which could explain why it’s so good. Both Applegate and Cardellini give outstanding performances as women attempting to escape from dangerous situations, including murder. In 2020, Netflix renewed it for a third and final season, which will debut in 2022.

Dead To Me

Supergirl
Status: Canceled
Seasons: 6
Est. Production Cost: $3 million per episode*
When Supergirl debuted in 2015, it proved to be a profitable investment for The CW, delivering the narrative of Kara Zor-El to a new audience. It’s difficult to establish a solid show in an era when superhero TV series are omnipresent – yet the network achieved it. Unfortunately for fans of AT&T’s DC character, the show will terminate after the sixth season. Melissa Benoist, the actress, will be saying farewell to her $75,000-per-episode salary as well as her role. “To say it’s been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement,” she tweeted. The last season was released towards the end of 2021.

Supergirl
Keeping Up With The Kardashians
Status: Canceled
Seasons: 20
Est. Production Budget: $10 million per season*
It’s impossible to fathom a world without the Kardashian-Jenner family on our screens, but that day is quickly approaching. In 2020, the reality TV royal family issued a letter to followers, saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we have made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” This appears to be a family decision rather than a network cancellation. All of the show’s big stars, including Kim Kardashian, are estimated to earn roughly $4.5 million per season from the show, so it will be painful. Comcast’s E! will almost certainly suffer financial losses if KUWTK goes away. However, the Kardashians already have a show called The Kardashians.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians
Bridgerton
Status: Renewed
Seasons: 2
Est. Production Cost: $100 million per season*
Bridgerton was another major hit for Netflix. The period drama, based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling novels, was part of Shonda Rhimes’ $100 million pact with the streaming platform. Rhimes created the show, which has now gone viral on social media. People enjoy the show, so it’s no surprise that Netflix has announced that it will be renewed for a third season. Bridgerton is set in England’s Regency Era (1811-1820) and follows the eight Bridgerton siblings as they struggle to find love.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Status: Renewed
Seasons: 15
Cast Salary: $200,000*
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia began as a low-budget production, with production expenditures per half-hour reaching around $550K. The cost per episode is now around $2 million. Two of the show’s main characters, Rob McElhenney (who plays Mac) and Glenn Howerton, created it (who plays Dennis). The show is currently in its fourteenth season and airs on FXX (which is owned by Disney). It debuted in 2005 and has had a bumpy route to popularity. Danny DeVito, the show’s most well-known star, estimates that he barely made $70,000 per season during the first three seasons. That’s incredibly low given Danny DeVito’s net worth of $70 million. In his prime, DeVito was one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. When he co-starred in getting Shorty with Arnold Schwazenegger, he helped the studio make $115 million on a $30 million budget.

Ozark
Status: Canceled
Seasons: 4
Est. Production Cost: $9 million per episode*
Following two critically lauded seasons of Ozark, Netflix quickly renewed the blockbuster drama for a third season, which will premiere in 2020. The producers had anticipated a total of five seasons for the massive crime-focused drama, stating they’d “always talked about it as five seasons” from the start. Unfortunately, things did not proceed as planned. Netflix renewed the show for a fourth and final season, disappointing viewers and critics who hoped to spend more time with the Byrde family. The streaming giant did not provide an official reason for the cancellation, but it’s possible that the showrunners simply wanted to end on a high note.

Ozark
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Status: Canceled
Network: TBS
Est. Cost: $100,000 per episode* (Cast Salary)
The cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine gets paid an estimated $100,000 per episode, however, negotiations for a raise are underway. This is most likely due to the series being canceled on one network but picked up for renewal on another. Andy Samberg plays Jake Peralta, a Brooklyn police officer, in the sitcom. It’s a lighthearted spin on the typical cop show that currently airs on TBS. Fans will be pleased to discover that the series has been renewed for not one, but two new seasons. The last season of these two new seasons concluded in late 2021, leaving fans heartbroken.

Brooklyn Nine Nine
Better Call Saul
Status: Canceled
Seasons: 5
Est. Production Cost: $1.5 million per episode*
Better Call Saul, starring Bob Odenkirk, is a sort of prequel to Breaking Bad. Fans of Breaking Bad will recall that Saul Goodman is the attorney for crime lord (and former chemist) Walter White. Better Call Saul, on the other hand, goes back to when Goodman was a no-name lawyer named Jimmy McGill. Even those who missed the Breaking Bad phenomenon can enjoy the program without having to go back and watch all five seasons of the anti-hero narrative. Despite this, having seen Breaking Bad improves the viewing experience of Better Call Saul. The series will conclude at the end of 2022.

However, viewers organized a petition with over 500,000 signatures and delivered it to 20th Century Fox Television, earning the show a second chance. But even the best concerts must come to an end at some point. To the dismay of viewers, the network announced that the series will be ending with its final ninth season, which debuted on January 3, 2021.

Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, and other stars star in the drama This Is Us. The show has been so successful that the cast’s pay has increased by 425% since its inception. This Is Us is a compelling account of several characters caught up in their own complex family drama, similar to a modern-day soap opera. It has received numerous awards, including a SAG Award. The show is shot in Los Angeles and airs on NBC, which is no doubt thrilled to have a show that can compete with Fox’s outstanding lineup. Rotten Tomatoes has given the show a 91% rating. Unfortunately for fans, the series ended in early 2022 after a natural end after season 6.

If you like The Good Wife, you’ll probably enjoy its spinoff, The Good Fight. Christine Baranski, Rose Leslie, Cush Jumbo, and Sarah Steele star as the series’ primary characters on CBS. Julianna Margulies reportedly declined to feature on the new spinoff because she did not believe her pay would be adequate. While many were concerned that a spin-off series would suffer without Margulies, The Good Fight has earned a stellar reputation from the start. After all, a television star like Christine Baranski can lift any show to massive success. Unfortunately for fans, Season 6 will be the final.
